Frequently asked questions.

Do I need a drum-kit before I start?

Definitely NOT! Nick spent the first year of his drumming journey playing on pillows and pots and pans, so you definitely don’t need a drum kit to start. The reality is, the first big challenge for any new drummer is building a strong mind-body connection, and understanding the fundamentals of rhythm. This can absolutely be done without a drum kit.

Am I too old/too young?

The short answer is, no. Nick has taught many beginners ranging from 6 years old to 60 years old. Different ages present their own unique quirks with learning to drum (for instance, reaching the pedals on a drum kit can be tricky for young children), but as explained earlier, the foundational skills being learned at the beginning don’t need a full drum-kit to be taught and practiced, just a willingness to put in the work.

Nick is more expensive than some some other music academies. Why is that?

We believe you get what you pay for. Nick is a working professional in the music industry, regularly gigging, touring, and lecturing, and as such is priced above some of his teaching colleagues, (many of which are still studying). To put this into perspective: Nearby to Nick’s studio, another music academy charges about $5 less per lesson. The drum teacher at that music college is a current student of Nick’s. You could save $5, or you could spend a tiny bit more and go where the teachers go for their own lessons.

Does Nick to call-outs/go to students houses to teach?

Nick has his own home teaching studio in Tarragindi, that is proprely set up for his students to get the most out of their lessons. This is where all lessons are conducted. He does not attend students houses to teach.
